We got the call last night.
We are officially moving to Taiwan next summer.
Sure, I’ve been letting myself live in denial that this would be the case, but I really did assume this would be the case. I’m not in shock and neither are the boys, nor Horatio.
We promised the boys we’d tell them as soon as we got the news and we were true to our word. Upon hearing the news, Harold wanted to know how we would move our house to Taiwan. We explained that we would live in a different house in Taiwan and someone else will live in ours for the three years we are gone. Harold replied, “That’s not moving, it’s visiting.” (lovely, 4 bed, 2.5 bath home for rent in Northern VA, available summer 2013-summer 2016!)
He’s right, I guess, and it makes sense to look at it that way.
The boys all handled the news well, but are each handling it differently: worrying and wondering about different aspects. Dwight (12 1/2) and Bob (9) are especially sad about leaving their friends. Dwight also wants to know what will become of his budgie bird, Charlie. (Any takers?). Trixie the guinea pig also will need a home, though Zack, the pet parent, hasn’t asked about her yet. Westley the three legged dog will “visit” Taiwan with us.
Stay tuned… More to follow.
oh wow!!! so you’re going. OH man!
