Last Day

Some days felt so long it seemed today would never come, but here it is.

I was so happy to see this lone link at the steps last night when I returned home in the wee hours.

As it turned out, I did end up making the trip out to my grandmother’s funeral.  I wanted to be there for my Dad.  A conversation with a good friend led to me talking with the boys about the importance of being there for family when they need you.  Despite the fact that it was Zack’s 14th birthday, he came to understand the importance of the trip.  So, I purchased a ticket using miles.

I called another friend who had offered to watch the boys and took her up on her offer.  I flew out at 8:00 in the morning and returned at 1:00 a.m.

So, today is the day.  I will put up the welcome home banner and the boys and I will venture out at 10:00 tonight to greet Horatio at the airport.

20 months… deployment is finally behind us.
