When a sailor is killed in action, Navy families grieve, no matter how close the loss is. A tragedy that claims dozens of lives, such as last week’s downing of a Chinook helicopter in Afghanistan sends shock waves through the military community.

Special operations families are among the tightest knit in existence. It’s a survival and coping mechanism, for sure. I know the widows are supporting one another right now. My heart is with them and I will keep them in my prayers.
